Led Zeppelin – BBC Sessions (1997)

Led Zeppelin is one of the most talented bands that have ever existed. What I mean by calling them talented, is that every single member of that band was amazing with their instrument. Robert Plant's Vocals extend to amazing heights, Jimmy Page is one of the best guitar players of all times, John Paul Jones has incredible bass lines and John Bonham is one of the all time best drummers in the world. They have some amazing songs as well, but the main thing this band is known for is their incredible talent. Zeppelin used lots of different genres in their music throughout their career. This album is a compilation of studio and live recordings that were just rotated as bootlegs before the release of this album. I feel like it focuses more on the band's bluesy side than probably any other individual album.

Almost all of these songs are also on one of their main studio albums. These are just slightly different versions of those songs. I feel like on this album Zeppelin gets to use their creativity a bit more. Everyone knows that they were a great live band and this album shows why. They improvised a lot in their live performances and what you heard on one gig, was completely unique. That's also probably why Led Zeppelin has released so many live recordings and DVDs.

I got really excited about Led Zeppelin when I was about 15 years old. Many of my friends at school started listening to them at the same time and I was really excited to find Zeppelin's II on original vinyl from my father's collection. I still have that vinyl today, but I also own the CD, because back then vinyl wasn't that useful not owning a proper record player. I also own BBC sessions only on CD, but then again it wasn't released until 1997 when people thought vinyl was dead. I was also learning to play the guitar and bass at that time and was obviously really impressed by Zeppelin-members' talents.

This is not exactly the same version as on this album, but I think it's still worth linking a video of a Zeppelin song. I link one of my favourite songs by them, Dazed and Confused. This shows what the band is capable of live.

I don't listen to BBC Sessions that much. I prefer listening to their studio albums. I've never been much of a fan of live albums or demo recordings and collector's editions. They do give some insight into the band and give some impression of how they were live, and with a band such as Led Zeppelin, I think this is quite important, but anyway, this is more of a collectors item than a serious album.

Led Zeppelin, as a band, has had a massive influence on me. They were one of the first so called "old bands" that I started listening to and it led (pun intended) me to other bands of the 60's and 70's. I was so impressed by that old music that I spent many years listening to music from decades ago until I found indie rock in the early 00's. I don't listen to Led Zeppelin that often nowadays, but whenever I do, I get all nostalgic and remember why I was so impressed by them as a teenager.

Listen to the album on Spotify.
